發問:

I am thinking of buying a 50mm lens, and want to know that in terms of image quality, is there any difference between these two lens? Would the quality of 1.8 be so much worse? 1.8 is so much cheaper, despite it is made out of plastic, what's the disadvantage? Thanks

最佳解答:

Optically, the main difference between both lens is the maximum aperture. as we know the aperture means the faction of the focal length, thus for 50mm, the maximum aperture will be as large as 35.7mm while at 1.8 its about 27.8mm bigger aperture means bigger lens, bigger lens means more expensive to fabricate, and bigger lens means more tolerance to micron level roughness, and hence better optical resolution. and considering the enhancement made on the suspension to host the bigger lens, the combined factor make the cost of 50mm F1.4 twice as F1.8. ideally everyone will tell you to get the F1.4. it is better without doubt. but if your budget is tight, F1.8 is a viable option. be noted that the bottleneck that hinder the quality of the photos may not be the lens like Film SLR, for DSLR many case its the body is another bottleneck that determine the quality of the photos. therefore, there is no need to ask for the best if ur body is a entry level body like 450D.
